Festung Fürigen is a former Swiss military fortification built into the cliffs of Bürgenberg near Stansstad, Switzerland. Constructed in 1941-1942 during the Second World War, it was part of Switzerland's Reduit defense strategy, designed to protect the Alpine region in case of invasion. The fortress was built as a rock-hewn artillery work (Artilleriewerk) and equipped with two cannons intended to help repel a potential German advance toward the Alps.
It remained operational through the Cold War period before being decommissioned by the Swiss Army in 1987. Since 1991, Festung Fürigen has operated as a museum, offering visitors insight into Switzerland's military history and the strategic importance of the Reduit concept during times of conflict.
