This military bunker is part of the Alpine Wall (Vallo Alpino), a extensive system of fortifications built along Italy's northern frontier in the years leading up to World War II. Constructed under the direction of Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, the Alpine Wall stretched 1,851 km (1,150 mi) and faced France, Switzerland, Austria, and Yugoslavia. This defensive line was manned by the Guardia alla Frontiera (Ga F), special Italian troops tasked with border defense.
