La Coupole, also known as the Coupole d'Helfaut-Wizernes, is a massive Second World War German bunker complex located near Saint-Omer in the Pas-de-Calais department of northern France. Constructed by Nazi Germany between 1943 and 1944 under the codename Bauvorhaben 21, its primary function was to serve as a fortified storage and launch preparation facility for V-2 rockets (A4 ballistic missiles) aimed at southern England and London. The site's most distinctive architectural feature is its enormous reinforced concrete dome, designed to withstand Allied aerial bombardment, which gives the complex its name, 'The Dome.'

Geographically, the bunker was strategically positioned within the Atlantic Wall fortification system, approximately 14.4 kilometers from the English Channel coast. Its construction involved forced labor and represented a significant engineering effort by the German war machine. The complex included extensive underground tunnels, storage chambers, and equipment rooms carved into the chalk hillside, all protected by the iconic dome structure.

Although never fully completed or operational for its intended purpose due to intense Allied bombing campaigns and the advancing front lines, La Coupole survived the war largely intact. Today, the site has been repurposed as the La Coupole Museum, a major historical and scientific museum dedicated to the story of the V-2 rocket program, the German occupation of France, and the technological race of World War II. It stands as one of the best-preserved and most significant examples of German WWII military engineering in Northern France, offering extensive exhibitions and a poignant walk-through of the original underground facilities.
