A World War II-era military bunker located in Heist, Belgium, has been uncovered and restored as part of the LIFE DUNIAS project. The bunker, built by German forces during the occupation, was discovered during routine park maintenance in the coastal dunes of Director-General Willemspark. Archaeological work revealed a fully excavated structure that provides insight into the defensive infrastructure established along the Belgian coast during the war.
The restoration effort, led by the Municipality of Knokke-Heist, aims to preserve this historical site within the natural landscape of the dunes.
