Movik Fort is a historic German WWII coastal battery located near Narvik in Northern Norway. Constructed by German forces during their occupation, the fort occupied a strategically commanding position overlooking the Skagerrak Strait, the vital sea lane between Norway and Denmark. Its primary historical significance stems from its formidable armament: it was equipped with a single massive Krupp 380mm naval gun, one of the largest artillery pieces of its time, with a range of up to 55 kilometers. This installation represented a key component of Germany's Atlantic Wall defenses in the far north, intended to control maritime traffic and deter Allied naval operations in the region.

Architecturally, the fort exemplifies German WWII fortress engineering (Regelbau) adapted to a rugged coastal environment. The centerpiece was the enormous 337-tonne gun housed in a reinforced concrete casemate, designed to withstand counter-battery fire. Supporting structures included ammunition bunkers, crew quarters, observation posts, and defensive positions, all integrated into the rocky terrain for camouflage and protection. The site's isolation and harsh climate were significant factors in its design and operational challenges.

Following the war, the fort was demilitarized and eventually fell into disuse. In recent years, it has been recognized as a significant piece of military heritage. However, the site has been closed to the public due to safety concerns, including unstable structures and potential unexploded ordnance. Its existence also contextualizes Norway's broader 20th-century military history, from German occupation fortifications to the extensive network of Cold War bunkers built in response to tensions with the USSR, and the continued strategic importance of the region reflected in modern initiatives like the U.S. Marine Corps Prepositioning Program in Norway.
