08/2001 The Home Guard established a roadblock at this Location in 1940 utilising barbed wire. This was probably a Wallace Bag-net block, i. e. three coils of Dannert wire which could be quickly stretched across the road to form a block. Concrete cylinders would be used to supplement this block. Hooks were used to fix the wire to an adjacent house, one of which still remains.
