The Al Amiriyah Air Raid Shelter, also known as Public Shelter No. 25, is a former civilian air raid shelter located in the Amiriyah neighborhood of Baghdad, Iraq. Built during the Iran-Iraq War, this reinforced concrete bunker was designed to protect Baghdad residents from aerial bombardment.
On February 13, 1991, during the Gulf War, the shelter was struck by two GBU-27 Paveway III laser-guided bombs dropped by the U.S. Air Force, resulting in the deaths of at least 408 civilians who had sought refuge inside. The attack has been characterized by Human Rights Watch as a war crime, though the U.S.
Department of Defense maintained it was a military command center. Today, the site serves as a memorial to those who perished in the bombing.
