A significant Cold War-era nuclear shelter constructed to protect the leadership of Yugoslavia. Known as ARK D-0 or 'Tito's Bunker', this facility was built between 1953 and 1979 near Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was designed as a secure command and survival complex in the event of a nuclear conflict during the period of the Non-Aligned Movement.
The bunker was never put into operational use and remains a preserved historical site, representing the geopolitical tensions and civil defense strategies of the Cold War in the Balkans. Its construction reflects the independent military doctrine of Socialist Yugoslavia, which prepared for potential threats from both NATO and the Warsaw Pact. Today, the site is noted for its extensive underground facilities and is a subject of interest for military heritage and urban exploration (urbex) communities.
