A three-storey Cold War-era subterranean shelter and operations centre built in 1952 for the British government. The bunker was constructed to provide a secure location for the government in the event of a nuclear attack. Located near Kelvedon Hatch, Essex, it was designed to be concealed behind a natural screen of woodland and accessed via a narrow country lane.
The site was chosen by the Ministry of Supply, and its construction was overseen by the newly-elected Churchill government. The bunker's architecture and design reflect its purpose as a secure underground facility.
