{ "title": "La Coupole", "description": "La Coupole is a vast and technologically advanced Second World War bunker complex located near Saint-Omer in the Pas-de-Calais department of northern France. Constructed by Nazi Germany between 1943 and 1944 under the codename Bauvorhaben 21 (Building Project 21), its primary function was to serve as a fortified V-2 rocket production and launch facility. The site was a critical component of Germany's secret V-weapons program, designed to launch ballistic rockets against London and other Allied targets from heavily protected underground installations.\n\n Architecturally, the complex is dominated by its massive concrete dome, 70 meters in diameter and 5 meters thick, which was intended to roof the main assembly halls. Beneath this dome lies a labyrinth of tunnels, storage rooms, and railway sidings carved into the chalk hillside. The design incorporated advanced reinforced concrete construction techniques and was intended to be virtually impervious to Allied bombing. Its location in the Pas-de-Calais region was strategically chosen for its proximity to the English Channel and its existing transport links.\n\n Although construction was never fully completed due to intense Allied aerial bombardment and the advancing front lines, La Coupole remains one of the most significant and well-preserved examples of German wartime engineering in Western Europe. After the war, the site was briefly used for coal storage before being preserved
