24/01/1999 A former army camp used from 1940 - c1960. The camp has now totally disappeared. The only clue to the existence of the camp is a small amount of concrete/brick rubble on the S boundary of the new housing estate. The camp was auctioned off £31,500 in January 1963 (possibly some huts and other buildings, which were sold off, survive at other Locations).

The camp was demolished in the early 1960s, and is now the site of an housing estate. 30/01/1963 The Newark Advertiser states that the camp was built in 1940 with huts for 300 soldiers and nissen huts for 200 more. Units known to have been based here include the Northamptonshire Regt.

(WW2) , an ATS searchlight training unit (WW2) , the 21st Independent Parachute Co. (prior to Operation Market Garden) , and REME 5th AA Group. The last troops at the camp were men of the 23rd Signal Regiment, Royal Corps of Signals.
