16/06/1992 This area was Defended Locality no. 1 (or The Keep) in the Stevenage Home Guard defence scheme. It is reliably recalled by a former Home Guard member that two spigot mortar pits were located here 15 yards apart opposite the former Home Guard HQ (now a B & Q store).
