The Fordow Nuclear Facility, also known as Fordo, is a uranium enrichment plant located near Qom, Iran. Construction began in 2006, with the facility becoming operational in 2011. The site is notable for being buried deep inside a mountain, providing significant protection against aerial bombardment.
This design choice led to the use of bunker buster bombs by the United States in a 2020 strike, known as Operation Midnight Hammer. The facility has been a subject of international scrutiny due to its role in Iran's nuclear program.
