The Trincheras bunker is part of the extensive network of fortifications built during the Franco era in Spain. Following the end of the Spanish Civil War, Francisco Franco ordered the construction of thousands of defensive bunkers along Spain's borders, particularly the Pyrenees frontier with France. This system, known as the Fuerte del Cinca or Fuerte del Pirineo, was designed to defend against a potential invasion that never materialized.

The bunkers were constructed from reinforced concrete and were intended to house troops and artillery. Many of these structures, including those near Trincheras, remain scattered across the Spanish landscape, often hidden by vegetation, serving as silent reminders of Spain's militarized past during the mid-20th century.
