05/2000 No. 1 Gun coastal battery. BOP and CASL visible in photograph. No evidence of structures on 1973 1: 2500 plan (information from 1951 aerial photographs). 1943 Hemscott Battery manned by 311th Coast Battery RA, of 510 Coast Regiment RA. Two 6in Mk. VII (some sources say Mk.

VIII) guns, with a Battery Observation Post and two searchlights (CASLs) with generator. Nissen hutted accommodation. Cassini refs. of gunhouses - No. 1 77101566: No. 2 77081569. CASLs - 77081574 and 77131560. BOP - 77041373. 1942 2 x 6in guns of 311 Battery, 510 Coastal Regiment RA covering beach.

Cassini ref. 773154. 03/05/2003 Earthworks show the positions of the gun emplacements and other buildings of the battery (also at NZ 2801395408). Some fragments of concrete and brick can be seen, and more is probably buried. What appears to be the concrete block footings for a Nissen hut, 15ft wide x an uncertain length, are at NZ 2808895232.
