La Coupole is a massive Second World War bunker complex located near Saint-Omer in northern France. Originally codenamed Bauvorhaben 21 or Schotterwerk Nordwest, this concrete structure was designed by Nazi Germany as a launch facility for V-2 rockets targeting England. The site represents one of the most significant remnants of the Atlantic Wall fortifications and serves as a powerful reminder of the region's wartime history.
The complex features a distinctive dome structure, from which it derives its name, and extensive underground facilities. Built into a former limestone quarry, the bunker was intended to protect rocket assembly and launch operations from Allied bombing. Today, La Coupole operates as a museum and historical center, offering visitors insight into the technological and human aspects of the V-2 program and the broader context of the Second World War in northern France.
