Līgatne Soviet Bunker

The Līgatne Soviet Bunker, located near the town of Līgatne in Latvia, is a once-top secret underground facility constructed during the Cold War era. Built 9 meters beneath the ground, this bunker was designed to serve as a shelter for Latvia's Communist elite in the event of a hypothetical nuclear war. The secrecy surrounding the bunker was so great that for 30 years, employees and clients of the adjacent rehabilitation center remained unaware of its existence. Today, the bunker has been opened to the public as a museum, displaying authentic exhibits that have survived from Soviet times, offering visitors a unique glimpse into the Cold War era and the history of Latvia.
