04/03/2001 Small circular pimples (typical Essex shape). One survives intact immediately adjacent to the bridge. A little further along the river bank are a broken concrete base and the tip of a pimple, and then beyond that in a land drain outlet are the remains of a third. These pimples, plus two or three on a nearby farm, are the only remaining WW2 defences in Braintree. Adjacent river bank is steep-sided (it may have been altered to make an anti-tank ditch).
