28/12/1997 A minefield was planned (it is not clear that the mines were actually laid) for the area to the N of the weir in order to prevent a tank crossing the river via the weir to attack the petrol depot. Initial responsibility for defence was the 23 Infantry Training Company Worcestershire Regiment, later the South Unit Worcester HG.
