La Coupole is a massive Second World War bunker complex located in the Pas-de-Calais department of northern France, approximately 5 kilometres from Saint-Omer. Built by Nazi German forces between 1943 and 1944, this fortified underground facility was originally codenamed Bauvorhaben 21 and designed as a launch site for V2 rockets, Hitler's secret weapon intended to strike London and potentially alter the course of the war. The complex represents one of the most significant remnants of the German V-weapons program in Europe.
The bunker features a distinctive concrete dome structure that gives the site its name, along with extensive underground facilities where rockets were to be stored, prepared, and launched. Situated in the countryside of northern France, La Coupole was part of the Atlantic Wall defensive system and demonstrates the engineering capabilities of the Third Reich's military construction projects. Today, the site has been rehabilitated as a History and Remembrance Centre, serving as both a museum and memorial to this period of military history.
