This bunker was part of the United Kingdom Warning and Monitoring Organisation (UKWMO) network, established during the Cold War to detect and report nuclear explosions and monitor radioactive fallout. The Royal Observer Corps operated a nationwide network of such posts, typically consisting of a buried monitoring room with surface instrumentation.
