Bevere Lock and Weir was guarded as a vulnerable point from 1940 onwards by the Hallow Home Guard. This duty was shared with the Grimley Home Guard. Initially, a wooden hut was provided for those off duty; later a room in the Lock Cottage was used for sleeping purposes. (Oral testimony from former Home Guard member).
