Description

07/1993 At the S end of Paynes Lane, a few yards N of Laidge Cottages, is where the anti-tank ditch of the Outer London Defence Ring crossed the road from W to E. To block the verges between the anti-tank ditch on each side and the roadway, fixed anti-tank obstacles were erected and are still in position. They consist of 1 large concrete block plus 5 hairpins on the W side and 9 hairpins on the E side. Very few hairpins survive, and this is thus a rare survival.
