2001 Trefonen is a small village SW of Oswestry in an upland area. A minor road passes through the village between Oswestry and the A495 road. During WW2 the centre of the village was termed a defended locality. A strongpoint was set up on The Cross. A steel hawser was anchored at one end to the big tree in the grounds of the Efel Inn, and was looped to a stone post on the opposite side of the road. A slit trench was dug just over the cemetery wall behind the war memorial.
