Description

This research is automated and may contain errors.

14/04/1997 Auxiliary Unit hideout used by the Perranporth Unit. Constructed by Royal Engineers to replace previous site discovered by school children (see TDB 8743). This was sited close to an old mine ruin to E of Perranporth near Reen Manor. It had a camouflaged, cantilevered entrance and an emergency exit within the old mine ruin.

It was eventually filled in when a tractor fell into the dugout some time after the war. It was difficult to keep the Unit secret from the local villagers, who knew its members as The Bombers (!). (Information from ex-members of Auxiliary Units - Trevor Miners (Perranporth) and John Greet (St.

Agnes).
