Bunker 96 was part of the 'Wetterau-Main-Tauber-Stellung', a defensive line constructed in Germany during the final months of World War II. This fortification was built in early 1945 as part of a last-ditch effort to slow advancing Allied forces. The line stretched across central Germany, connecting the Wetterau region with the Main and Tauber river valleys.
