Panzerwerk 318 was part of the Neckar-Enz-Stellung, a German defensive line constructed between 1936 and 1938 as part of the Wehrmacht's rearmament program. This fortification system was designed to protect the southwestern approaches to Germany, running along the Neckar and Enz rivers. The position was intended to serve as a fallback defensive line during the later stages of World War II, though it was ultimately outflanked by Allied forces advancing from the north.
