The Amiriyah Air Raid Shelter, also known as Public Shelter No. 25, was a civilian air raid shelter located in the Amiriyah neighborhood of Baghdad, Iraq. Built during the Iran-Iraq War, this reinforced concrete bunker was designed to protect Baghdad residents from aerial bombardment. On February 13, 1991, during the Gulf War, the shelter was struck by two GBU-27 Paveway III laser-guided bombs dropped by the U.S. Air Force, resulting in the deaths of at least 408 civilians who had sought refuge inside. The bombing became one of the most controversial incidents of the conflict, with Human Rights Watch characterizing it as a potential war crime.
