10/11/2000 The operational base of the St. Blazey Auxiliary Unit patrol was built by the regular Army, and was constructed in nissen hut form from corrugated iron sheeting. It measured approx. 20ft x 8ft, with one room used as living accommodation and an adjoining smaller room used as a store for explosives, etc.
The living accommodation housed four bunks made of timber and wire netting and some crude chairs and a table. With a main entrance constructed as a hinged hatch door, well camouflaged and cantilevered, there was an emergency exit through the explosives store. This exit was also well camouflaged and was opened by means of various levers.
It was hidden by an old tree trunk. A ventilation pipe led from the bunker up through the trunk of a hollow tree. Local exercises and training was carried out at The Old Forge, near Rock Cottage, a few hundred yards N of the operational base (SX 05805680).
