07/08/1997 A fougasse system was installed all along the beach from Kingsdown to Sandwich Bay. This was a system of pipes leading into the beach that could set the whole beach alight. There were tanks of the flammable liquid at intervals with pumps. 01/11/1940 Petroleum Warfare Site (Sector 6).

Cassini ref 820663. Flame trap on sea in front of tubular scaffolding obstacle. Installation will be complete by 6 Nov 40. All tanks should be filled by 8 Nov 40. Decision re ignition arrangements still awaited from Ignition Committee, Petroleum Warfare Department. 3 Power Pumps.
