04/1999 A stub of steel rail embedded in a circular plug which is inserted in a concrete socket. This was part of a road block where hairpin rails were used over the area of pavements and road. This fragment is on a raised bank close to the wall of the Church Institute, adjacent to the pavement. (The recorder lived 200 yards away during the war and observed the Home Guard regularly practising the erection of the rails, usually on a Sunday when there was little traffic).
