2000 The Operational Base of the Probus Auxiliary Unit was in Slaughterhouse Wood at Golden Manor Farm, Probus. It was located about 15ft inside the wood, adjacent to a lane. The hole in the ground can still be seen, but there is no evidence for surviving building materials. The OB was fitted out with bunk beds and was constructed of timber and corrugated iron sheeting.
It measured 18ft x 10ft, with an entrance concealed by a large trunk of a tree fixed to a door - ivy grew on the tree trunk to complete the camouflage effect. A large hole was dug, the hut was erected, and then buried. Ammunition and explosives were stored in the OB. (Information to the recorder from Mr.
Denis Hooper and Mr. Hugh Kendall, surviving members of the Patrol).
