27/08/1999 Flame trap which consisted of a metal perforated pipe about 30ft in length that was fixed along the top of a bank about five feet above the road. The pipe was connected to large tanks of petrol hidden in the wood behind the pipe. In the event of invasion, the petrol would have been sprayed across the road surface and ignited. (Information on the site given to the recorder by a veteran of the East Surrey Regt. which installed the flame trap - Mr. Lesley Collins).
