2000 The Operation Base for the Redruth Auxiliary Unit was built in a field on Grambler Farm, about half a mile E of the town centre. It was built in 1940, and consisted of a nissen hut structure measuring 18ft x 12ft, built 10ft underground. It had two sections, with an entrance in one field and an emergency exit in an adjoining field.
It was equipped with bunks and cooking equipment. Nothing remains of this bunker today. It was destroyed by fire some time after the war ended when children set fire to some Molotov Cocktails they had found in the bunker. An indentation showing the site of the bunker can still be seen in the ground today
