Description

This research is automated and may contain errors.

12/02/1999 This auxiliary unit base was built by the local St. Newlyn East resistance group which consisted of 7 men. A nissen hut was buried about 10ft underground as headquarters and ammunition and explosives storage bunker, etc. It was built in the vicinity of the mine known as East Wheal Rose, about 150yds to SE of existing stack (chimney).

The underground bunker no longer survives, and the site is now beneath a golf course. The sergeant in charge of the group was James Rawlins - still alive (1999). Other members of the group were Thomas Hoskings, Kenneth Willcock, George Harris (alive) , and three others. (Further information on original record).
