21/01/2000 Weapon pits. There is no sign of the 3 pits now and the 1940 map gives an imprecise indication of there Location. The recorder (Mr. Mick Wilks) concludes that the pits would have been sited on the top of the ridge-line overlooking both the railway bridge and the riverside meadows to the W and SW. Information from an Home Guard map, dated December 1940, held by the Worcester and Sherwood Foresters Regimental Office at Norton Barracks.
