21/01/2000 Weapon pit. There is no sign of this pit now and the 1940 map gives an imprecise indication of the size of the island. Nevertheless it is possible to deduce that the weapon pit was to the E of the centre of the island. Information from an Home Guard map, dated December 1940, held by the Worcester and Sherwood Foresters Regimental Office at Norton Barracks.
